Hi Everyone,
I recall watching the news reports years ago of the 35W bridge collapse in Minneapolis. I have driven that road many times and still can’t believe it happened. I remember talking to clients about how I hoped that we would start paying attention to our infrastructure needs and began investing in firms capable of solving these problems.
We haven’t paid enough attention but I’m still hopeful we are going to soon. The October 3rd issue of Time has an excellent story about how and why infrastructure repair can help all of us now.

Infrastructure Investing
Choosing to invest in a particular sector involves narrowing your focus and increasing risk. The infrastructure sector has been volatile and will likely continue to be as compared to the broader market. I still find it interesting for growth investors. Few things make more sense to me than putting some money to work where we Americans need it to be put.
Investing in assets that have predictable and reliable income streams makes sense too. Among them are bridges, pipelines, airports, toll roads, utility towers, educational facilities, correctional institutions, and health care buildings.
One of the best ways to learn about a sector is to look at the companies operating within it. I enjoy reading the stock reports on these companies. Although not a recommendation to buy, you may want to learn more about these companies:
Enbridge, Inc. (ENB) – pipelines
Corrections Corp. (CXW) – correctional facilities
PG&E Corp. (PCG) – utility towers
Willimas Companies (WMB) – natural gas
Transcanada Corp. (TRP) – gas and oil pipelines
Call with questions or to determine if infrastructure investing is right for you.
Until next week,

Stock investing involves risk including loss of principal. Because of their narrow focus, sector investing will be subject to greater volatility than investing more broadly across many sectors and companies.
